How to Build a Raised Garden Bed

A raised garden bed is a 3-4 feet wide bed with any possible length filled with soil that can be used for gardening purposes. The plants are grown within its boundaries. There are many benefits of this type of gardening. It is considered ideal for the places where the soil productivity is not as good. A raised bed is also the solution of smaller
space where conventional row garden cannot be established. Because of deep rooting and better drainage, the productivity is always higher. Through this way, you can keep your precious plants save from the invasion of weeds and insects.
Building a raised garden bed is very easy and almost every person can do that with the help of a little know how. If you don’t have enough money to build a raised garden bed, you can convert some older obsolete items into a raised garden bed like an old wooden boat. If you have an older boat that can no longer be used for water activities, you can convert it easily.
The other way that can help you is by converting an old wooden bed frame. This one may be even better than the boat. The third option that you have is old wine crates. Wine crates, orange crates and any other crates like that can be used as raised gardening bed. You will drill some holes in the crate for drainage, fill it up with soil and then start planting.
The shape of the box is not a problem here, as you are free to choose any shape of your own choice. The purpose is just filling the box up with soil. So, it can be of any shape. There is just one rule that you need to remember. The top and bottom of the box will always remain open. The sides of the garden will remain close permanently, as these act as a shield against the weeds and insects.
If you don’t want to rely upon other things and want to build your own raised bed, you can do it by yourself with a little effort. Normally, the width is not more than 4 feet, but there are no restrictions about the length of the garden. Anything that can hold dirt can be used in raised gardens such as synthetic wood, railroad ties, rocks, bricks, plastic or lumbers. These are the materials of raised gardening that one can use for his garden. Generally, lumber is given the priority over all other materials. Out of this material, you can build a triangular, square or even a rectangular raised bed.
