The Thriving Industry of the Car Bumper Repair Industry

A bumper is an essential portion of every car. It is a metallic bar or beam like panel that is connected to the frontal section of the vehicle. In most cases the rear end is also beautified with a bumper. The original function of the bumper is to provide protection and reduction in the impact of any accident or damage due to collision. Many countries have implemented certain rules and regulations regarding the size, compulsion and material of a vehicle bumper to ensure people’s safety.

The benefits of having a bumper in a car is that if undergoes a slow car crash mostly at the speed of parking gear, the bumper safeguards the body of the car from major dents. In the latest cars the bumpers are mostly made up of the metallic structure that is covered by the plastic coating for safety. Other materials like fiber glass, aluminum and various forms of high resistance plastics are also used in the manufacturing process of bumpers.

The laws and regulation in most countries require a vehicle to have a bumper on compulsory basis. The rules regarding its height and adjustment are very standardized and legally binding by all vehicle owners. This variation in placement and size of bumpers helps saves the smaller car from sliding into the larger vehicle if an accident occurs. However importantly it focuses on absorption of energy generated due to a small low speed collision.

Bumper properties are restricted to less speed and do not guarantee safety to the car and its components at very high velocities. The car bumper industry is a thriving business these days. Due to the high demand in various types, makes and sizes, companies manufacturing, supplying and retailing this product are at a gaining end. They are having remarkable demand for new versions that also meet the regulatory standards.

In the 70s and 80s most of the vehicles had bumpers made from shining steel material and were large, bulky and had a forward protruding placement. In the early 90s, this trend was surpassed by the plastic coated sleeker bumpers having a thermoplastic cover. The latest materials used in current manufacturing process include a composite of polycarbonate and acrylonitrile butadiene styrene. This material is often referred to as PC/ABS. It is light weighted and has good flexible properties to reduce damage upon sudden impact.
